Vertical and automatic tracking louvers fit attractively into 3 of 4 facades of the new office complex of Marti Bauunternehmung. Remarkable 81off linear drives ensure precise and quiet tracking operation of the perforated louvers. A special control technology feature was implemented in this project. Precise modelling was used to take into account the occasional external shading caused by the neighbouring Kapsch building. Externally shaded facade areas are opened on the louver side, thus maximizing the supply of daylight. This leads to greater comfort and improved well-being. Circumstances that are demonstrably reflected in the productivity of employees.

The transparent facade structure must be protected from excessive solar radiation and the resulting heat loads. At the same time a minimum of daylighting is required, even with fully activated sun protection. The sun protection must be installed on the outside to achieve maximum effectiveness in terms of heat load reduction. The colour of the Marti logo should be reflected in the louver curtain. The sun protection system must be automated so that it can react to changing sky conditions and optimally control light and energy flows.

Control reacts to shadowing from neighboring buildings

  • Ground floor and 1st floor are in the shadow of the neighboring building - > slats open completely
  • 2nd floor is tanned - > slats in tracking mode

The dynamic detection of the shading situation allows slat fields that are in the external shading to be fully opened to maximize daylight. External shading is stored as a model and is permanently calculated together with the sun position.

System

Here, too, the decision was made in favour of an operable, sun tracking louver curtain made of perforated and coated aluminium sheets, arranged as vertical louvers. The colouring changes from discreet grey to the Marti logo yellow. All louvers move synchronously. Individual banks are combined into control groups according to the room layout. Consideration of external shading represents a further improvement in performance and increases the level of comfort for the room users.
